Toys, games and more

DO YOU WANT TO TRAIN YOUR FERRET EASY TRICK IN JUST ONE DAY?

Do you remember my post about playing games with Frida? I must admit we don’t play those games anymore, she is getting lazy (and so am I). There are tons of other games we can play even though we are both lazy.

Ferrets aren’t typical pets we all know that. Their playtime is different from, for example, dogs. I also have a dog, a Westie named Tila and she is still a puppy. She is 6 months old and she is my first dog. Now I can really see why are ferrets a combination of cats and dogs. When it comes to playtime, Tila always comes to me, looks me in the eyes, and silently barks a few times. That means let’s play! If she is near a stuffed animal she places her paw on it. She is really direct when it comes to playing. For her, that is some serious matter!

Frida, on the other hand, is a lady. She won’t invite you to play, she will wait for you to invite her. She’ll lay down, pretends to be asleep and then I’ll roll the ball towards her. She will look at it, when the ball stops moving, she will attack! She’ll grab the ball toss it in the air a few times, run around aaaaand……the ball isn’t interesting anymore. That game lasts for about 30 seconds. That behavior reminds me of cats. Cats have that posture: ˝I am too good to play with some ball!˝ but the minute the ball rolls near them they are: ˝OMG A BALL!˝ I hope you understand what I mean.

The only thing that grabs Frida’s attention is a mouse on a string. When you move the mouse it makes little squeaky noise and then, the game begins. She runs, jumps, acts all crazy and that is what I love the most about her.

Oh, I almost forgot. There is one more toy she loves! That is the orange squeaky bone which is as old as she is. That bone is the only toy I have since she was 3 months old. When I don’t know where si Frida, I just squeak with that bone and she comes in a matter of seconds. Then I give her that bone and she puts it under the sofa. Incredibly cute!

Tunnels are a must-have for every ferret owner, I don’t think of them as a toy, they are part of the obligatory equipment, like a cage or food. I have two tunnels, one pink is the same since forever and one new. The new one is a shorter blue tunnel, it has almost 1 meter but the best thing about it is that it is the most flexible tunnel I have ever seen. You can roll it in a circle and it will stay that way. Awesome!

The newest member of our toy collection is a plastic box and packing peanut. I used the transparent plastic box so I can see what happens inside and 2 packages of packing peanuts. The plastic box I’ve found in a store, a basic store with groceries, I think you can find a plastic box everywhere that shouldn’t be a problem. Packing peanuts, on the other hand, I have found in the home improvement store. Actually, I’ve found it in only one home improvement store which is really strange. I guess people don’t need them that much.

Anyway, that is all you need for fun. You grab one bag of packing peanuts and put it in a plastic box. I chose the wrong box size, it should be bigger. I’ll buy another one. Only the best for my Frida!

I like to put half a package of packing peanuts then put Frida and cover her with the rest so she must dig her way out. I think she likes that, it’s more interesting I have also put one package of packing peanuts in the bag (a basic plastic bag but a big one) and Frida loved that too, probably due to the plastic bag factor. She can roll around in it and the bags spread as she moves which makes it even more interesting. You can do wonders with packing peanuts. At first, Frida wasn’t so excited about it, but when she tried it a few times, she really liked it. Maybe your ferret won’t like it at first but I am sure he’ll love it in the future. You should supervise your ferret because they can take one of the peanuts and bite it. We don’t want that, do we?

Another version of the packing peanuts game is with rice. I must admit it does sound great but I am a little afraid of the mess after playtime. The next step of our playtime will be the plastic box filled with rice I’ll forget about the mess. This is just the tip of the iceberg of playing with Friendly Ferret!

P.S. I am preparing a little surprise for you and Frida. It will be awesome and I will say only this: SO MANY BOXES! 😉

Stay tuned!
